ITALIAN prosecutors have requested an international arrest warrant for Brazil legend Robinho after the ex-AC Milan star was convicted of rape.

Officials have also asked Brazilian authorities to extradite the 38-year-old to Italy so he can serve his nine-year prison sentence.

Robinho was involved in the gang rape of a woman on her 23rd birthday at a Milan nightclub in 2013.

The forward and five others were found guilty in 2017 and his conviction was confirmed by an appeals court in 2020.

In January the Supreme Court in Rome upheld the previous ruling sentencing the ex-Man City talent to nine years in jail.

The Supreme Court’s ruling cannot be challenged and is definitive.

Now Italian prosecutors have asked their Brazilian counterparts to hand over the forward.

He is back in his home country after signing for boyhood club Santos in 2020.

Brazil has a long-standing tradition of not extraditing its own citizens when they are sentenced in other countries.

But the Serie A-winner now risks being arrested if he sets foot in one of the nearly 70 countries Italy has an agreement with under an international warrant.

At the previous appeal Robinho did admit to having ‘contact’ with the woman, but called it ‘consensual’.

He claimed after he left, his friends also had consensual sexual intercourse with the woman - while adding he can't speak for them.

Key evidence used to convict the former Real Madrid star involved intercepted phone calls between Robinho and his friends.

It's reported Robinho said the woman 'was completely drunk'.

But Robinho's legal team stated the messages were mistranslated into Italian.
