First look at PlayStation 5 with design, 'price and UK release date'

This is the first look at the PlayStation 5 as over a dozen games were revealed tonight to gamers.

Sony bosses remained tight-lipped on the console date and price which will be the first new PlayStation design in the series since 2013.

But they revealed a first look at the new console which shows a much more streamlined and futuristic look.

The new PlayStation 5 has gone through a complete colour change from black to white and each console will come with Grand Theft Auto V online.

What was announced
Sony is revealed a list of over a dozen games to be available for the upcoming console to demonstrate its specs and capabilities.

Sony Interactive Entertainment president and chief executive Jim Ryan said Thursday's event will show games which "represent the best in the industry from innovative studios that span the globe".

What games were shown?
Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

A new, black Spider-Man with a dark costume takes centre stage in Spider-Man Miles Morales.

A new Gran Turismo

Gran Turismo 7 was debuted with fantastic graphics.

Ratchet and Clank

A mind-bending platformer where you explore alien worlds, which is built for the PlayStation 5.

Project Athia

A dark, Tomb Raider-style adventure designed exclusively for PlayStation 5.

Stray

You seem to be controlling a cat in some post apocalyptic Japan where robots rule cities. To be released in 2021.

Returnal

A lost astronaut explores a dark alien world controlled by her nightmares and memories in a battle with her own sanity.

The first person shooter/adventure game looks to be a kind of Resident Evil meets alien

Sackboy - A Big Adventure

Sackboy seems to be a platformer where you jump around and collect things but in better graphics.

He doesn't speak so there's not much else to say about him really.

Destruction - Allstars

An explosive cut-scene showed people fighting and crashing monster trucks into each other around an arena.

It looks very much like Tekken vs Rocket League.

Kena - Bridge of Spirits

An adventure game where a young woman is on a quest to kill cartoon-like spirits.

Looks very much like Zelda

Oddworld SoulStorm

Abe the star of the original PS2 game Abe's Oddysee is back for an explosive ride with very impressive graphics.

Ghostwire Tokyo

It's up to you to save Tokyo and battle some of the scariest looking ghosts and demons in this supernatural thriller.

It looks like it may have VR elements built into it.

Jetf The Far Sure

It seems like you're in some kind of spaceship again and travelling across alien worlds with the hope of establishing a new colony.

Godfall

A medieval hack and slash platformer that's available at the end of 2020.

Solar Ash

This trippy, 2D adventure doesn't really make much sense. You're a robot who wakes up in this strange dimension with unusual music. The camera turns upside down a lot. It's coming out in 2021.

Hitman III - Death Awaits

The graphics are immense, almost film-like as you watch Agent 47 wander through woodland.

The new Hitman is coming out in January 2021 for the dramatic conclusion of the trilogy.

He's based in Dubai and this is definitely the most visually impressive game debuted so far.

Astro's Playroom

Another VR game made its debt as you control Astro in fictional land in this platformer.

Little Devil Inside

People with weird shaped heads are killing monsters to the sound of classical music in this cartoon game which doesn't really seem to amount to anything before climaxing with a giant 2D dragon battle.

NBA 2k21

Just when you think they can't improve the graphics of NBA games, developers manage it again.

Zooming in on the beads of sweat to show off the detail that has gone into this year's edition.

Bugsnax

A strawberry wanders around talking to his mates before a giant talking Australian walrus gulps him up then his arm turns into a strawberry to a catchy themetune.

This is mental.

Demon's Soul

Another Medieval hack and slash game but this time with much better graphics, looks a bit like Elder Scrolls.

Deathloop

Assassins are taking each other out in this futuristic first-person adventure game which looks very much like BioShock.

The Bethesda adventure shows the main character repeatedly being killed in dozens of different gory ways while being hunted by various characters. Before dying and starting again.

This could be the best one of the night. There's also a plot here but I'm not sure what it is.

Resident Evil 8

Be afraid. The graphics look absolutely incredible on this one and the sound seems like it will give you a nervous breakdown.

It's set to be released in 2021.

Pragmata

Time seems to be standing still as a man in a space suit desperately tries to save a little girl while satellites rain down on the planet.

Horizon Forbidden West

A young hero takes on nature and the earth in this impressive adventure platformer.

The tech specs revealed

The announcement confirmed that the PlayStation 5 will have 4K blueray compatibility and an Ultra High Speed SSD.

The PlayStation 5 introduces the Dualsense - which definitely looks more like an Xbox controller.

It has a slightly larger look and feel to the DualShock 4 with a two-toned colour design which contains haptic feedback to add "a variety of powerful sensations" and adaptive triggers onto the L2 and R2 buttons.

A PlayStation 5 spokesperson said: "Haptic feedback, which adds a variety of powerful sensations you’ll feel when you play, such as the slow grittiness of driving a car through mud. We also incorporated adaptive triggers into the L2 and R2 buttons of DualSense so you can truly feel the tension of your actions, like when drawing a bow to shoot an arrow.

"DualSense also adds a built-in microphone array, which will enable players to easily chat with friends without a headset – ideal for jumping into a quick conversation. But of course, if you are planning to chat for a longer period, it’s good to have that headset handy."

PlayStation 5 UK Release Date
The UK release date is expected to be towards the end of this year, shortly after or at exactly the same time as it goes on sale in the US.

Price
Rumours suggest the PlayStation 5 may retail at £599.99, according to screenshots of an amazon posting put on Reddit.

While the actual price has not been confirmed, it is thought to be around this level, if not slightly cheaper.

The PlayStation 5 is due to be released at the end of this year, around the same time as rival Microsoft's own next-generation console, the Xbox Series X.

It means the console is likely to be available in time for Christmas.
