Ashenda Festival also known as Ayni wari is a cultural and religious festival uniquely for girls and young women in Tigray Ethiopia,
The festival is celebrated in the northern part of Ethiopia mainly in the Tigray Region of Mekelle City, Abiyi Adi, Axum and also Sekota and more.
In this annual festival girls and young women are dressed a very colorful cultural dress, jewelry and unique hairstyle. Ashenda girls celebrate the festival with Ashenda songs dance for three days or more. During the festival women openly express their feelings through Ashenda songs. Therefore, it is also considered as a symbol of freedom for women.
