The police authority in Nigeria has finally taken a very drastic measure to end the excesses of SARS officers throughout the country -

IGP Mohammed Adamu on Wednesday, February 26, ordered the closure of all SARS offices - Such offices are to be taken over by police commissioners henceforth To the joy and immense relief of many Nigerians, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mohammed Adamu, has called for the immediate disbandment of all offices of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

This was revealed by the senior special assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on public affairs, Ajuri Ngelale, on Wednesday, February 26. Offices of SARS located in places like Ikorodu, Ijebu-Ode and in Obada Oko will now be taken over by police commissioners.
This came on the heels of the killing of a Nigerian footballer, Tiamiyu Kazeem, in Sagamu, Ogun state, by some SARS officers on Saturday, February 22.

The disbandment of the unit was announced by the deputy inspector-general of police, Peter Ogunyanwo, on Tuesday, February 25, during a condolence visit to the state governor, Dapo Abiodun.

“The death of your son has played a role in getting some of our zonal offices reorganised. Our concern now is justice for the deceased, how do we get it? If we don’t have adequate information as to what actually happened, we will not be able to get justice for the deceased and he will not forgive us wherever he is,” he said. Governor Abiodun while commiserating with the family of late Tiamiyu, said no stone would be left unturned during the investigation.
