The new head of the public refinery was previously the general manager of business operations for the Ghana National Gas Company, the state-owned gas company. He holds a degree in manufacturing systems engineering from the University of Kingston in the United Kingdom and an MBA from Henley Business School also in the United Kingdom.
Mr. Boateng has over 20 years of professional experience in energy projects in Ghana, including extensive international experience in the petroleum and electricity industries. He has notably worked in the development of numerous gas-to-power projects in Saudi Arabia, Nigeria and the United Kingdom.
The refinery has a capacity of 45,000 barrels per day. The government has been working for three years on a project to build a new refinery that will be able to process up to 150,000 barrels per day.
