Activist lawyer Deji Adeyanju has called for the dismissal and prosecution of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) officials allegedly involved in a N15 million bribe claim made by crossdresser Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky.
In a statement he signed, Adeyanju praised the EFCC for deciding to investigate the allegations, emphasizing that probing the matter is crucial for combating corruption and upholding the rule of law.
The allegations surfaced in an audio recording leaked by VeryDarkMan, where Bobrisky claimed that EFCC officials were bribed with N15 million to drop money laundering charges against him. He also claimed his godfather ensured he didn't serve a six-month jail term in Kirikiri prison. However, Bobrisky later denied the allegations, calling the audio fake.
Adeyanju urged the EFCC to thoroughly investigate the claims and prosecute any officials found guilty, stressing that this would strengthen public trust in the agency's fight against corruption. He also emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability in maintaining public confidence, urging the EFCC to keep the public informed about the investigation's progress and findings.
